Safety in Design Workshops

RFA can facilitate Safety in Design (SiD) workshops in conjunction with the nominated Principal Contractor and/or on behalf of the client. The SiD workshops are undertaken to comply with legislative duties and the clients own WHS/OHS Management Systems, where applicable.  While the process is owned by the Designer, RFA can act in a peer review role to ensure risks have been considered through the project lifecycle from design stage through to demolition.

The RFA team have facilitated SiD workshops and peer reviewed SiD registers for a large range of projects spanning from simple plant/equipment design through to major industrial, retail and commercial office construction.

RFA has inhouse expertise to assist our clients in addressing and managing health and wellness in the workplace. With a recent study documenting 87% of the workforce is stressed, and 12% report this stress to be unmanageable, the health and wellness of your employees is more important than ever. The first step to compliance under the WHS/OHS Act requires you to understand the psychosocial risks and impacts to your employees. Mental Health First Aid Training

RFA is a licensed provider of Mental Health First Aid training.  This training can be conducted as a face-to-face session or as a facilitated online format.  The MHFA course teaches participants to recognise signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults and to have strategies to provide initial support to those experiencing mental health issues.

Qualitative Risk Assessment

RFA can undertake a review of exposure scenarios across a wide range of industries and workplaces to anticipate, recognise, evaluate and control these risks. We can undertake a review of your workplace to identify risks including:

  • Physical hazards (noise exposure, vibration, heat stress, UV exposure)
  • Chemical hazards (asbestos, volatile organic compounds, welding fumes)
  • Biological hazards (mould, viruses, bacteria)
  • Ergonomic hazards (workstation setup) and
  • Psychological hazards

The risk assessment is used as a baseline or tier 1 investigation to identify exposure scenarios that may impact on the health and safety of workers and to determine where resources need to be allocated to quantitatively assess the risk (e.g. monitor the exposures).

Monitoring and Quantitative Risk Assessment

Subsequent to undertaking a qualitative risk assessment, RFA can design a sampling program and undertake on site monitoring services. These services will be designed to capture worker exposure during a typical working day using recognised and validated methodologies. Monitoring can be undertaken of exposures to:

  • Asbestos and synthetic mineral fibre
  • Respirable crystalline silica
  • Noise
  • Indoor air quality (temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc.)
